Esperanza Benefit Concert in Oregon, Portland

Esperanza Spalding will be returning to Portland to finish up tracks for her highly anticipated Radio Music Society release with Thara Memory and the American Music Program students and participate in a benefit concert on August 23rd at 7:30 pm at the Gerding Theater. Esperanza will perform American Music Program students. “Every time I come to Portland I try to reunite with Thara one of my mentors,” says Spalding. “I am excited to have had him as a teacher and to have his current students participate on my song “City of Roses” a song dedicated to the place of my birth and where I got my start”. Esperanza will be shooting a video for “City of Roses” that will include some of the students.

Fantastic concert, class, sensitivity, fully accomplished jazz on the bass by itself and THEN that voice that compliments every aspect of the performance.!! We are so proud that she comes from Portland and that Eunice and I used to take her to some gigs when she was 16 and couldn’t go into the club before the gig started unless she had an adult with her. What a wonderful memory. She is as genuine now as she was as a 16 year old. What a joy!!!
